In Ingham county there are 11,000 elementary school aged kids who qualify for free or reduced lunches. These children often have challenges in school because they are hungry. The federal program which provides breakfasts and lunches levels the playing field and makes it possible for these children to overcome obstacles to learning. However, food insecurity continues over the weekend, holiday and summer breaks. The Weekend Survival Kits project was designed to make food kits available for any child who may need it, this means that these participating children will not come back to school hungry and unable to focus on learning.
Your gift will help the Weekend Survival Kits project purchase food for the kits. Local service organizations do the heavy lifting of packing and delivering the kits to area schools participating in the project.
Your continuing support of this project will help Many Hands Inc. (a Michigan based nonprofit) reach our goal of consistently feeding all of the kids who need the support over their breaks from school. The Weekend Survival Kits project focus is currently elementary school-aged kids in Ingham County, with your help we can continue to grow.
